Iqbal

Iqbal has just been admitted to your acute ward under Section 2 of the Mental Health Act (1983). You are an RMN and the Nurse in Charge. It is dinner time. Iqbal is experiencing first episode psychosis and is reluctant to eat the ward food provided. You have been told he has not eaten for some days and he looks dishevelled. The dining room is busy and loud, there is an altercation between two female service users about who gets to sit at the table by the window. Iqbal says he doesn’t want to eat the provided meals. He is sensitive to the noise and activity around him. He’s becoming agitated, looks preoccupied and is clenching his fists by his side.
