Arrival in MalawiAfter successfully completing your medical school finals, you embark on a journey to Malawi, central Africa. You have secured a place at the Kamuzu central hospital, working in both acute medicine and paediatrics. Before starting at the Kamuzu Central Hospital you have been informed by your elective supervisor at the hospital that you need to register at the Malawi Medical Council. They will do the necessary checks to prove that you are a final year medical student and give you a certificate to bring with you when you start. You have been told that this will cost $100 U.S. Dollars. Upon arrival, you are met by a well dressed man in a suit and told that you need to provide proof of being a St George’s student and that you have to pay $150 U.S. Dollars. You immediately provide the proof, however, $150 is more than you were expecting to pay. You explain that you were told by your supervisor contact at the hospital that the fee was only $100 U.S. Dollars. STOP and DISCUSS What do you do to resolve the situation? |
