Welcome to the Virtual Nutrition Ward Round! The team will ask you questions and offer you teaching throughout, just like on a real world ward round. Unlike a real world ward round, some of the questions are multiple choice. Be sure to have a look at the explanations for the correct and incorrect answers as there is useful feedback.

It is 11.30am on a Monday morning at St Sebastian’s Hospital, where you (Sami) are on a 3rd year medicine placement on a Gastroenterology firm. You have spent the morning with Dr Khan, her registrar Dr Lizzie Smith, and the F1, Dr Shaun Parrot, seeing all the “luminal” patients. You have seen a patient with an acute flair of ulcerative colitis, a patient who had a large upper GI bleed yesterday, and a patient who is very unwell with gastroenteritis. You are starting to think about lunch with your placement partner who is on the hepatology side of the firm this week, when Dr Khan says “OK everyone, as usual I’ve asked Dr Parrot to put the nutrition patients together on the last page of the handover sheet.” Mike, a specialist dietician, and Trudy, an intestinal failure CNS, have also joined the ward round.
You turn over the sheet, there are four patients, and quite a lot of abbreviations you don’t recognise.
If you are playing for the first time, click next. If you are a returning player, you may wish to skip ahead to the second, third or fourth patients of the morning.
